DIY Wedding: What to DIY and What Not to DIY
With the cost of basically everything increasing, planning - and budgeting for - a wedding is more stressful now than ever. Thankfully, there are ways to cut wedding costs with just a little extra work and some creativity! However, there some aspects you want to leave to the professionals. Here are some things you both can and can’t DIY for your wedding!
DIY It: Signage
Whether it’s your signature cocktail sign, a “Just Married” sign, table numbers, or a “Welcome” sign, creating your own wedding signage is a pretty easy DIY project. If you don’t like your handwriting, you can always pick up some stencils at your local craft store!
Don’t DIY It: Wedding Planner
You could be the most organized person in the world and be able to plan your wedding down to a T, but is it really worth all that added stress? Hiring a wedding planner not only helps keeps everything running smoothly and according to plan, but they’ll also take care of all the nitty-gritty details so you don’t have to!
DIY It: Centerpieces
Centerpieces are a great way to not only save money but also add a personal and unique touch to your wedding. Try using old perfume bottles, mason jars, or wooden boxes as flower holders, different size and colored candles, or family photos for a unique and personalized centerpiece!
Don’t DIY It: Florals
Flowers are a central part of every wedding and while you can certainly create your own bouquets and centerpiece arrangements, using a florist will save you tons of time! Plus, florists know what flowers are in season, and which ones to pair together, and can suggest options you might not have thought of. And if you’re worried about your floral budget, take a look at this post on budgeting for florals!
DIY It: Gift Bags
Wedding guest gift bags are another easy DIY project that can be as extravagant or simple as you’d like. For out-of-town guests, providing them with toiletries, ibuprofen, snacks, etc., is both thoughtful and inexpensive! You can also DIY gift bags for your bridesmaids and groomsmen. These are typically more personal and fit your theme and their personalities such as jewelry, flasks, clothing, etc.
Don’t DIY It: Food
This one might seem obvious but hiring a caterer is 100% worth it when planning a wedding. Even with an intimate wedding, DIY’ing anything food-related just adds additional stress! There are certainly ways to decrease catering costs whether that’s opting for a buffet-style, having your favorite restaurant cater, or even opting for small bites instead of a full meal.
