How to Budget for Your Wedding Florals

Planning - and budgeting - for a wedding is…stressful. One aspect that often gets overlooked is budgeting for florals and floral arrangements. But, have no fear - we’re here to help! Here is a short guide on budgeting for floral arrangements for your wedding!

First, What’s Your Entire Wedding Budget?

Before creating your floral budget, establishing your entire wedding budget will save you a ton of stress. For this, hiring a wedding planner can help since they’ll help you navigate your budget and assist with the details and logistics - saving you lots of time and resources.

What are Your Priorities?

Once your budget is set, sit down with your partner and list your priorities from most to least important. When you finish, see where flowers and floral arrangements fall. After figuring out just how important flowers are to your wedding - whether they’re super important or aren’t that important - you’ll get a better sense of what spend.

What is the Average Cost of Wedding Flowers?

While these numbers can fluctuate, the average cost of wedding flowers is between $3,500-$5,000. This includes bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, ceremony decorations, table centerpieces, reception decorations, flower child and ring bearer flowers as well as petals.

Again, this is just an average and the actual floral price will vary depending on what you and your partner want.

How to Budget for Florals

If florals are a huge part of your wedding, you’ll want to allocate more of your overall budget - especially if you want to incorporate arches or other floral arrangements.

Next, consider your wedding location. For example, if your wedding is in Florida, incorporating native Florida flowers will keep costs down!

Now, consider your wedding date. Flowers that bloom in the fall would be more difficult - and expensive - to get for a spring wedding. Utilizing seasonal flowers will also keep your floral budget in check.

What is your wedding style? And where is your wedding venue? These are also a factor in your floral budget. Flowers matching your venue and style will help you stay within budget.

Once you’ve gathered your inspiration, you can start formulating questions to set expectations for your florists. Before interviewing florists have these questions answered:

  • What kind of ceremony and reception decorations do you want? And how many?

  • Will you have tables for the reception that need floral arrangements? If so, how many?

  • Will you have cocktail tables that need flowers?

  • How big is your wedding party? What flowers do you need?

  • Will your family members, ushers, etc. need flowers?

  • Will there be a petal or flower toss?

In general, couples allocate between 8%-10% of their overall budget to flowers but that can depend on the types of flowers and arrangements used.
