How to Avoid The Top 5 Wedding Planning Mistakes

It’s no secret that planning a wedding is stressful and overwhelming. One way to decrease that stress and overwhelm is to plan in advance and do your research! We know that’s easier said than done, though, so here are five wedding planning mistakes to avoid.

Not Having a Budget

While it may seem obvious, having a budget is probably the most important thing to have when it comes to wedding planning. Although setting a budget is stressful and overwhelming in itself, a great place to start is figuring out what matters most to you and your partner. For example, is it the venue? The catering? The band or DJ? Prioritize what services are non-negotiables and what services are nice to have but not necessary and work your way down from there.

Booking Too Late

Another thing that may seem like an obvious wedding planning mistake is failing to book your venue and vendors early enough. However, life happens and before you know it, your favorite venue is booked for your ideal date. A good rule of thumb is to book your wedding venue 12 to 18 months before your ideal date. Once the venue is booked, you can then focus on booking major vendors such as a wedding planner, florists, musicians, and photographers.

No Backup Plan In Place

As we learned in 2020, things beyond our control happen. So, failing to have a backup plan for your wedding is a big no-no. Whether it’s last-minute vendor cancellations or unforeseen weather issues, things happen and it’s in your best interest to have a backup plan. One way to be prepared is to consider wedding liability and cancellation insurance. And, ALWAYS read the fine print in your contracts

Not Enjoying the Moment

It’s so easy to get caught up in wedding planning that you forget to enjoy the process! Yes, it’s stressful but you don’t want to look back and only remember being stressed out and overwhelmed, right? Your wedding is about you and your partner - don’t forget that during the planning process.

Not Hiring a Wedding Planner

Even the most savvy planner can benefit from hiring a wedding planner. Not only do wedding planners help with important dates and timelines, they can also help with getting you the best prices or getting you access to hard-to-book venues and vendors. Plus, they may provide an idea or suggestion that you hadn’t thought of before! But, a wedding planner’s biggest benefit is alleviating the overall stress of planning a wedding.

While these five mistakes may seem obvious, keeping them in mind while planning your wedding can make all the difference!
